I was going to blog about cats.
I didn't, though, because of my pathetic compulsion to try to be original, so I went with something I'm hoping the other 1000+ bloggers participating in this challenge aren't blogging on.
But cats would probably be more popular. So I'll include a picture:
ANYWAY.
Here's a definition to start us off:
can·dor (kndr)
n.
1. Frankness or sincerity of expression; openness.
2. Freedom from prejudice; impartiality.
Now isn't that nicer than Truth, with it's bald, blunt edges, its self-serving passion for its own perceived purity?
Candor implies kindness, an acceptance of the other, a way of being that is true- but sincerely, gently true, an openness that accepts as much as it gives.
I've always preferred candor to truth.
Candidly, that's the truth.
Thoughts?
Candour always seemed to have a negative spin for me, thanks for putting it back in the right perspective.
Hey there,
Thanks SOOO much for popping back in, I’m following your innovative posts now!

Candour is far, far better than “truth”. “Truth” depends on the perception of the teller of the tale without owning up to the reality. Candour implies ‘this is my point of view’.
It’s also inherently more tactful.
I’m glad you’ve changed your topic, this sounds so much better, and I believe I refreshed a word covered with layers of dust….
I remember always wondering what did ‘candid’ mean in “Smile, you’re on Candid Camera!” when it aired in South Africa and I was just learning to speak English 😛
I love the pyramid – it’s so true 🙂
I’d love to hear about growing up in South Africa!
So I’ll be quite candid here… I’m one of those at the broad base of your triangle. I love the cat picture!!
I know you cat lovers are out there! LOL
Wow. That’s really nice. I’ve been thinking a lot about compassion and empathy and otherwise fighting the negativity that’s so prevalent in the culture these days, and this is another good way of approaching that. Thanks for the brain fodder!
You’re welcome!
Candor has always had a negative connotation for me, and Truth seemed nicer. It’s good to hear your perspective, helps to balance the two of them better.
Loved your productivity triangle, it seems right on, LOL 🙂 Works that way for me, at least.
Thanks for stopping by Madison!
Aloha
I love that graphic of Maslow’s internet needs, I got a good laugh out of that one.
They way you put it candor looks nicer than truth, especially with the impartiality. Sometimes truth can be misused to mislead. Someone can say a statement that is true, carefully choosing other information not to say so as to hide what is really going on. Deceit by omission.
Yes to both, but I feel candor is gentler and kinder than truth in social communication. It focuses on the positive more.
To be perfectly candid, my favorite definition is freedom from prejudice.
A new favorite word…I had forgotten about candor. I like words for no reason. Thanks for the reminder.
Maslow’s Hierarchy cracked me up. It is difficult in this challenge to choose words that everyone in the challenge isn’t using. Or to at least write on the same word in a different way.
hey thanks for putting up with my science over at Stratoz. Stop back tomorrow for some jazz. Candor is a cool word in that it has layers of meaning. have a great D.
I had never really thought of it before, but you’re right: candor does sound so much nicer. Like someone else said, I guess I had always thought of it as something sort of negative, but after seeing the actual definitions, I do believe I prefer candor now too! Also read your B blog, such a great post. It’s hard to be in the moment sometimes, I think it’s really natural for us to always be projecting, thinking, planning, worrying about the future or getting stuck in the past and forgetting to just BE. I’m going to try harder!
I’ve always wondered why there are so many cat profile pics. “An Endless Fascination With Cats”, I guess.
hee hee!
Yes, we need pictures of cats.
More cats, please!
Though candidly, I don’t like (real life) cats.
I love them but they make me sneeze!
