Kat and her rascally cat, Tiki, have been invited to a traditional Japanese tea ceremony at the home of beloved community elder, Pearl Yamamoto. Other friends of Pearl's, members of the local Red Hat Society, are also in attendance.
At the tea gathering, Pearl had shared her plans for her property to become a cultural park and garden for the community. Before she was able to share her entire plan and the history of her families property, she succumbs to an unknown malady and is rushed to medical care.
Kat, Keone and Tiki, are on the hunt for evidence to discern who and why Pearl has been targeted and the plans for her property are interfered with. Evidence starts mounting up, pointing to particular persons with reasons to hide their family history.
In Tiki Beach, author Toby Neal brings a deft and delicate hand to a sensitive historical time in history, while weaving in all the other elements of her stories dedicated readers welcome.
Reading about the detention and internment camps on Maui during WWII was of particular import to me as three generations of my husbands family were interned in Manzanar. Through the years I've heard many stories of the time in camp that ranged from not wanting to speak of it, outrage still held and acceptance of the time. Given just three days to divest of their belongings, businesses, property, and allowed only what they could carry, the grievance's were justified and the heartache deep. Family heirlooms had to be left behind and many were stolen. It is a time that should never be repeated.

I enjoy reading. this author books, the plots flows to the end.
It's a fun series, though murder does happen, and a feline name Tiki helps solve.
I recommend this book and the many other s this author has written.

An attempted murder of one of the Red Hat Ladies has Kat and friends including the once feral cat Tiki looking to find the responsible parties. I just love when her handsome boyfriend pilot Keonie and Lei Texira Hawaii PD are featured in the story as well. Ms Neal's story telling always make me feel as if I'm right there in Hawaii with them. I feel like I'm one of them. Really takes me on a caper with them and helping get the bad guys. I love being a member of the ARC team. As a member I'm asked to give an honest review and to tell you the truth – I can't wait for the next one to read and review. 5 Stars every time! love these books 📚
