Unsound photo shoot and cover reveal: my next book is coming soon, and it's going to be a doozy! Here's the blurb:
Only a volcano can cure some things.
Dr. Caprice Wilson, police psychologist, has spent her life unraveling the mysteries of the human mind—only to find herself in a deep crisis. Caprice prescribes herself a walkabout and goes hiking on Maui—but the solitary retreat she has in mind does not go as planned. Caprice faces an enemy she never knew she had and wrestles with questions of hope, identity, loss, and the nature of psychopathy in a cat-and-mouse game with survival at stake.
Mike and I had a simply amazing evening shooting the cover for Unsound, the upcoming Dr. Wilson novel, a “Companion” book in the Lei Crime Series. We drove up Haleakala near sunset, and set up my hiking boots (nicely broken in by our trip across the national parks) on a rock and Mike shot about a dozen pictures. It was really easy compared to our Twisted Vine shoot. Then, we went to the top of the lookout and were blown away by the sunset.
We sent off the best of many very good photos, and my designer, Julie Metz, came up with this cover:
I was so moved by it, by the whole experience, by this book inspired by our hike in the crater, that I cried.
It still elicits a powerful emotion of beauty and dread every time I look at it. I can't wait to get this book out to you…it's only weeks away!
Aloha
Toby
Awesome cover! It’s wonderful how you have the opportunity to visit such amazing places for shoots!
You are welcome to start this book at night, or read on into the evening. Just plan to NOT go to sleep until you are at the last page! I literally could not stop reading… I adore Lei, but this is the BEST book yet… and I gave it my whole night’s sleep, as proof! The name? a coincidence.
Can’t wait to
read it! We cannot believe how productive you are! Cover looks fabulous!
I’m glad you got a break this time, after all of the struggle with the high heels, then with the ferns… The cover looks amazing and creepy and suddenly I am dying to read the book.
That sunset shot, too… wow. The colors don’t even look real, except that I got to go to Hawaii once, half my lifetime ago, and have vague memories of how amazing the sunsets can be…
That cover looks fantastic. I’m eagerly awaiting the book!
Awesome cover, Toby!
