Get to Know Christine Nolfi
One of the things I enjoy doing on the blog is occasionally introducing readers to new authors I think they'd enjoy. Today I'd like to welcome prolific talent Christine Nolfi, author of the bestselling, heartwarming intrigue mysteries, The Liberty Series. As a special treat for my readers, anyone who comments on this blog post will receive, totally free, the first book in her series, called Treasure Me! Giveaway ends WEDNESDAY 10/22/14!
In the interests of introducing readers to each of our books, she also interviewed me and I got to talk about experts and my upcoming series with Sophie Ang here .
I had an opportunity recently to chat with Christine about her passion for writing, our common interest in having strong female protagonists in our novels, and the joy of living and writing in a beautiful part of our country
Toby: When did you first know you wanted to be a writer?
Christine: I can’t recall a time when I wasn’t reading and writing—even in childhood. I wrote my first novel in college. The manuscript sits dusty and unloved in my filing cabinet.
Toby: You live in the beautiful city of Charleston, South Carolina; how does your surroundings influence your writing?
Christine: Charleston is rich in history and utterly beautiful, elements that I’ll celebrate in the new book series I’m developing. I can’t get over the sunlight—it seems clearer somehow than the light in northern climes.
Toby: Your stories have engaging female characters; some with kick-ass strength or clever minds. Do you think it’s important to have strong female protagonists in your books?
Christine: Is there anything more delicious than reading about women who spout comments you wouldn’t dare utter and leap without looking? We all crave excitement, and I can’t imagine writing a novel without strong female characters. If the protagonist also makes the reader laugh—and cry—all the better
Toby: You’re the author of the bestselling Liberty Series which involves intriguing and at times heartwarming stories. How do you go about the research for your stories?
Christine: This far into The Liberty Series, I’ve learned to expect the subsequent book’s plot to take shape during the writing of each manuscript. By the midway point of Four Wishes, I’d already begun to develop amusing and poignant plot twists for book five. As I map out the chapters for the next book, I “interview” major characters in the first person. This is rather like writing diary entries for a given character in his or her voice. The process unearths delicious nuggets in the form of dialogue or complete scenes. Of course, the feisty Theodora Hendricks is usually the first character I interview!
Toby: We both recently released the latest book in our series. Now that you have released Four Wishes, book 4 in The Liberty Series, what’s up next for you?
Christine: If readers are wondering about the next installment in The Liberty Series, I’ll release book five in April, 2015. The story picks up right after the closing scenes in Four Wishes with a shocking twist! But before then, I’m taking readers on a rollercoaster ride in HeavenScribe, a new series set in Charleston. HeavenScribe is more mainstream than the Liberty books and features metaphysical elements.

Oh Christine, I am so delighted to have found Toby’s website today through #MondayBlogs. You got it!
I LOVE having authors recommended. It’s always a gift to “meet” an author that might have stayed hidden from my radar too long!
I hope you love Treasure Me like I did!
I love your newsletters and all the great information on them. I would love to get a copy of Christine Nolfi’s book and that would be because not only did I read on Amazon what the story is about and it sounds very interesting but also because I have every book you’ve written and I just can’t get enough. I know that if you think highly of this writer’s work I will too. Am also looking forward to your new upcoming Sophie Ang series. It can’t get here soon enough!
How wonderful to hear from you Ana, you know we writers live for words of praise like that! Yes I’m hard at work on both Rip Tides, Lei Crime #9, and Wired In, Wired Crime #1 with Sophie Ang. So much fun!
Toby, since I love your Lei series, I just know your recommendation of this author and series will be the start of another great adventure. Thanks for sharing!
Looking up this book on Amazon, I notice it has a character called Birdie in it. Which made me think about one of the Sherlock Holmes stories (I think it was one of the four novels, rather than the scores of short stories) which had a character – a brilliant American detective – called Birdie Edwards in it – so named because of his beautiful singing voice. Don’t know if there’s any relation with this character though :-).
Love and Peace
Robert
Thanks for sharing. Love the South and novels about it. Know I will enjoy reading the series.
